DR. H. NEAL DAVIS DDS

H. Neal Davis, DDS, 74, of Big Stone Gap, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at his home.He was born in Albany, Ga. on Feb. 12, 1943.  Dr. Davis graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis, Tenn. in 1971.  He started practicing dentistry in Tazewell and Jonesville, Va. before opening his own practice in Big Stone Gap, where he practiced for 43 years.  He was a member of the American Dental Association and Virginia Dental Association.  He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Big Stone Gap, where he was the head of the preaching committee, a lay leader, and served on the vestry for many years.  He completed an Education of Ministry in Theology from the University of the South School of Theology.  He was an active member and regional leader for Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 30 years, where he was actively involved in helping many people overcome their alcohol addiction.  Neal enjoyed racquetball, yard work, and spending time with his family.He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Sullivan Davis, his father, Dr. Walter Oren Davis, and his brother, Walter Davis.Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Norma Jessee Davis; one daughter, Charlotte Jean Turner; four sons, Richard Shane Dishner, Bradley Nelson Davis, Jonathon Aaron Dishner, and Barron Neal Davis; nine grandsons and three granddaughters, Blake, Logan and Bronson Dishner, Brock, Coltyn and Raelyn Dishner, Amethyst, Malachite and Mica Turner, and Jasper, Madeleine and James Davis; sister, Joyce Brown; brother, John Davis; and several nieces and nephews.The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap.The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church (100 Clinton Avenue, E.) in Big Stone Gap with The Rev. Charlotte Ann Beavin, 76, of Owensboro, died Aug. 15, 2017, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born on Feb. 28, 1941, in Hartford, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Golda and Edward Newton Williams.She was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church. She had been employed as a medical receptionist for Drs. John and Marilyn Sanders, Dr. Larry Wigginton, Dr. Don Riley and Dr. Robert Jackson.She was preceded in death by siblings, Dorothy Boone, Iona Hendrix, Emily Hoover, Edward Williams, Donald Williams, and J.T. Williams.She is survived by her daughter, Debra Spalding (Michael); four grandchildren, Josh Drury (Heather), John Michael Spalding, Corey Spalding, and Haley Haynes; two great-grandchildren, Braydon and Cammi Drury; and her dog, Ranger.Services are 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Walton’s Creek Cemetery in Centertown, Kentucky.
